iPhone 7 – Missing features

iphone 7 camera and flash

iPhone 7 is set for release in September alongside the iPhone 7 Plus variant which is much larger and considered more of a phablet. There have been different rumors circulating purporting to know exactly what the iPhone 7 is going to look like and how well it is expected to function.

While some of the sources are reliable, the specifications will be known for sure once the phone is released by the manufacturer. Aspects of the pone such as design have all but been confirmed by the availability of different accessories such as screen protectors and cases.

There are a number of missing features in the iPhone 7:

Iris scanner

The iris scanner is not present in the iPhone 7 but it is expected in the iPhone 8. Samsung moved to the iris sensor in the 2016 flagships. Including a fingerprint scanner would have placed the iPhone 7 a step above other flagships as the use of this technology provides for more secure communication and transaction via devices.

The fingerprint scanner has been used in phones for some time now and while it is also a way of securing mobile phone transactions and access, the iris scanner is the next step up in securing these transactions further.

Headphone Jack

It is highly likely that Apple has done away with the 3.5 mm jack that was present in previous models. Instead, there has been a leak about a lightning charger which further confirms the speculation.

The rumor about this led to up to 300,000 users signing an online petition to have the jack kept. However, this opens up more use of wireless and Bluetooth headsets for music lovers which could be a step in the right direction.

It is speculated that the lack of the headphone jack is one of the ways to better make the phone waterproof. It is also a way to create more space for bigger batteries and even possibly increase the capacity of the phones without having to forego some important features to achieve this.

Home screen button

The traditional home screen button has been omitted in the iPhone 7. This has had a positive welcome because it has been replaced by Touch ID and a haptic response that gives the feel of pressing a button although the physical button has been removed.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Battery Saving Tips

samsung galaxy note 7 battery saving

One of the most annoying things is having a smart device that keeps running out of juice. No one wants to keep charging their device.

Luckily, the Galaxy Note 7 has a pretty big battery capacity, of 3500 mAh which, is more than sufficient to last the user a day. But there are some tips that one should keep in mind in order to have a longer-lasting battery life. These include:

1. Turning off applications that are not in use

Mobile applications use up a chunk of the battery life. Turning off every app that is not in use is a guaranteed way to conserve on the charge available in the Note 7.

2. Reducing the brightness of the screen

Another tip is to reduce the brightness of the screen to one that you are comfortable with. While this will help to save on some juice, it also helps to protect one’s eyes from extremely bright settings which are detrimental.

3. Turning off data while not in use

Unnecessary connectivity could be one of the main battery draining tools in the Note 7. Turn off data while not in use to save on battery.

4. Use Power Saving Mode

Samsung has been kind enough to introduce the power saving mode in its phones. This feature slows down the CPU, turns off touch key lights and lowers the frame rate. This helps to conserve a significant amount of your battery. The good thing about this mode is that it is very efficient especially when travelling.

5. Shorter Screen Time Out

A shorter screen time out means less time for the screen to be on. This translates into less of the battery charge being allocated to screen lighting and brightness as well as pop-up notifications.

Reducing the screen time out will therefore have an impact on the battery life although it may not be as significant as desired. But who doesn’t want to make the best use of their battery especially when it is low?

6. Make use of wireless charging and other perks in the Note 7

As with other Samsung phones, the Note 7 comes with its own specifications that make charging easier including wireless charging. Instead of waiting to get to a port, make use of wireless charging stations as they boost on the Note 7’s juice even if it is connected for a while. Quick Charge is another great feature that allows the Note 7 to charge considerable even over short periods of time.

7. Turn off Samsung features

Samsung is known to have a number of features that are always on. These use up the battery on your phone. Turning off these features is a guaranteed way of saving on your battery.

While losing battery charge is an occupational hazard when it comes to smart phones as there are so many processes running at any given point in time, it is possible to maximize on the Note 7’s battery capacity be using the above tips to make sure the battery lasts longer through the day.

LG G4 vs Sony Xperia Z

Smartphones are covering the bigger space in the market. However, as the numbers of phones are increasing, the stiff competition and high value in the market are equally increasing. LG and Sony are fiercely competing with the smartphones with incredible features and specifications. LG G4 and Sony Xperia Z are two phones that are often compared for their similarities in the market bucket and in similar ranges. Here is the full comparison of the LG G4 and Sony Xperia Z.

Both the phones are differently designed. Sony Xperia Z is a strong smartphone made of metal and LG G4 on the other contains full plastic body. However, as far as the design is concerned Sony Xperia Z moves ahead with the water resistant and dust resistant features as well.

Sony Xperia Z is a 5.2 inches phone as compared to 5.5 inches of LG G4. Even though both the phone are made of IPS LCD technology, the LG G4 ranks higher with the 1440*2560 pixel density as compared to 1080*1920 of Xperia Z. However, the later is not bad either. LG G4 is considered better smartphone with the display by the virtue of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 Protection.

When it comes to the camera both the smartphones are equally placed. The Sony Xperia Z has a stunning 20.7 MP rear camera with features like Face Detection, Smile Detection, Digital Image Stabilization, Geo Tagging and others. However, the 16 MP rear camera of LG G4 isn’t bad either. It has the features like Optical Image Stabilization, Manual Focus, Auto focus among others. The Sony Xperia Z has 5.1 MP of Front Camera as compared to 8 MP Front Camera of LG G4.

This is perhaps the most interesting and important comparison of the smartphones. Sony uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor for the Xperia Z as LG sticks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor. However, the speeds of the processor are quite comparable. The Adreno 430 graphic processor of Xperia Z gets inches ahead with Adreno 418 Graphic Processor of LG G4. The native memory of the phones are 32 GB, however, one both smartphone supports microSD card slot. As far as the hardware and the performance are concerned, both the phones are quite poised and can be clubbed under same category. However, Sony Xperia Z may get slight advantage due to extended features.

The battery performances of the phones are also quite comparable. Sony Xperia Z uses 2930 mAh battery and the LG G4 uses 3010 mAh. The performances of the battery are quite similar for both the smartphones.

The Sony Xperia Z has been launched with Android 5.1 Lollipop version. LG G4 is also launched with the same version but upgrade will be available once the Android N or Android Marshmallow 6.0 is released.

Both phones can be bought locked or carrier free. The locked version is  a little cheaper but you can easily unlock it using an online service like UnlockUnit or UnlockBase.

Sony Xperia Z and LG G4 are good smartphones in terms of specifications and performance. The high quality and effective features rank the phones in the similar grade.

What To Expect From The New LG G5

LG has always released its flagships after Samsung and other major brands which has affected the purchases. This year, it is not given that LG will either do as it has in the recent past or if it will release the LG G5 earlier than other competing power houses. The release date however, is rumored to be within the first six months of 2016 with the announcement rumored to be in February, noting that LG has announced an event one day before the MWC.

Specifications, Design and Function

The phone is expected to be an all metal unibody. This is the first time LG is using the all metal approach. The furthest LG has come to incorporating a metal design on their phones is the use of a metal casing. The 2K display is expected to be 5.5 inches which is quite sizeable although the resolution is expected to be the same, at 1440 by 2560 pixels.

The LG G5 is said to have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 and 32 GB storage.

The primary camera is rumored to be 20 MP. The rear camera may have two LED flash bulbs and an autofocus that is laser-assisted. In addition to this, it is also rumored that LG G5 will use a dual camera that takes wide angle photos. The front camera is expected to be 8 MP. It is hoped that the front camera will be able to take high quality photos in high and low light environments, solving a problem that has been noted in other high end smart phones from different manufacturers. The LG G5 is expected to have a finger print scanner under the camera. LG had hinted at using retina scanning technology in their new models in order to distinguish it from Samsung and Apple phones. Retinal scanning may be used for functions such as authenticating mobile payments and other sensitive phone transactions. The camera is one of the best features of LG phones so it will not disappoint.

The phone is unlikely to have a removable battery or micro SD support. This is then contradicted by the rumor that the phone may have a SIM-car-like tray where one places the battery and slides it in, making the battery accessible through the all-metal frame. Rumor has it that the battery will reduce from 3000 mAh to 2800 mAh although it is not yet clear what such a change would mean for the processor and functioning of the phone. In addition, the LG G5 is rumored to have a magic slot which will give the user access to other hardware options such as a physical keyboard and sound amplifiers.

For those waiting for this flagship, February is around the corner and we can only hope that LG will announce the phone and shed light on what exactly will be on the LG G5. Release dates and pricing will also be available at the announcement. Hopefully LG will give users something to look forward to, especially because Samsung and Apple usually announce and release their flagships around the same time.
