Why is the Samsung Galaxy S7 carrier locked?

The Samsung Galaxy S7 is here and it is a beauty. It has some great features and also a few shortcomings. Generally, it has reached the expectations of techies although, as is with everything else in life, it could have been better. Some of the great features are:

A great display

The 5.1 inch-screen has more pixels per inch which means that colors are richer and clearer. This is important for gamers and movie watchers as the image quality is quite high. It has a 1440 by 2560 pixels resolution and uses super AMOLED technology. The screen is big enough but not too big and is the perfect size for those who don’t like hauling around tablet-like handsets.

The camera is a step down from the S6’s, sporting 12 Megapixels. The sensor is 1.4 um and it features optical image stabilization. The great thing about the camera even though the pixels are less is its cunning ability to take great photos in low light environments. This is usually the biggest problem with most phone cameras and Samsung has nailed it! The front-facing camera is 5 MP.

Samsung has stepped up by including the 2300 MHz Octa 8890 Exynos 8 processor. This makes the transition easier and the ability to multitask is to the tee. It also helps because of the unique cooling system Samsung introduced which ensures that the phone does not overheat.

Why carrier lock?

Samsung has provided the option for an unlocked factory-bought phone with the S7. However, the phones will lock to the first SIM card that the user inserts. But for those that are bought from the carriers, why lock them to these specific carriers?

1. Customer support

Carriers provide support for customers when it comes to a number of things such as software updates. This is a faster way to get help when your device is acting up.

2. Carrier applications

Some carriers have applications that are specific to them. They are not available on other carriers. Therefore, customers who would like to get access to these apps have to be connected to the carriers to enjoy the services.

3. Subsidized purchases

Most flagships are expensive and the S7 is no exception. In order to get the phones through monthly payments which are cheaper in the short term, one has to have a contract with a carrier which usually

includes locking the handset to the carrier.

How to unlock the S7

1. Use of a code

You can unlock by means of code. For this, you buy an unlock code online and the code is sent to your email along with the instructions. It does not require any technical knowledge and is fast and effective.

2. Use of applications

There are applications that one can download onto the phone to unlock the S7. Helroz has one available for download. You install it, launch and let it do the rest. The final step is to reboot once it is done unlocking your phone and voila!
